Marital difficulties come in many forms. There isn't one solution that fits every couple's situation or challenges. In this marriage group we have put together a comprehensive list of studies to address the most common difficulties couple's experience in their marriage. The following is a list of topics covered in the next group ministry of "Healing Your Marriage".
1. "Love and Respect". Many couples only have basic communication issues. For the first three weeks we will be studying Dr. Emerson Eggerichs series on marital communications called "Love and Respect".
2. "Forgiveness and Healing". For some couples, the emotional wounds they have suffered from each other go deep and are often left unhealed. My wife and I will teach how to begin healing each other through a study we call "Forgiveness and Healing".
3. "Spiritual Warfare". This study is designed to help you understand how Spiritual problems negatively affect our relationships and how to defend against our enemy who wars against us and our families on a spiritual level.
4. "Understanding God's design for our Marital Partnership". The holy marriage union is a unique and wonderfully complex partnership like no other God has created on earth. Often time's couples do not fully understand how God designed their partnership to work. In this series we will profile two couples from the Bible whose marriages are polar opposites of each other and see how their unions thrive or fail. We will study the marriages of "Priscilla and Aquila", and "Nabel and Abigail".
5. "Caring For the Emotionally and Spiritually Damaged Heart". Some people carry with them emotional trauma from earlier in their life. Often time's the other spouse is completely unaware of these emotional issues and has no idea how to identify what the "real issues" are or how to properly care for them. Subsequently, a person with deep emotional wounding may develop spiritual issues such as Pride, Bitterness, Rebellion or Moral Failure in an effort to cover their emotional pain. These spiritual issues often cause a person to be intolerant, unforgiving and closed off. They frequently have difficulty being compassionate and loving towards their spouse. In this series we will be using Pastor John Regier's study called "Caring for the Emotionally and Spiritually Damaged Heart".
6. Twelve Locked Hearts. As a result of emotional trauma from earlier in a person's life, that person may choose to lock their heart away from their spouse in order to avoid painful issues. They are unable to speak from the heart for fear of feeling shamed, belittled, vulnerable or unloved. We will be using Pastor John Regier's study on this topic to understand the reasons why people lock away their hearts from us.
7. Private Couple Ministry Sessions. At the end of this group, there will be opportunities for couples to experience personal and private ministry of a spiritual nature for the purpose of inner healing.
Group Requirements:
You MUST be married and BOTH the husband and wife MUST attend.
You MUST personally meet with Jay and Cathy for a short 15 minute conference prior to joining this group.
When we meet: Every Wednesday night from 6:30pm to 8:30pm starting September 10, 2014
For your convenience, dinner is provided from 5:45 pm to 6:15 pm before class begins.
Where: The World Prayer Center building on the New Life Church Campus. The room number is still to be determined.
Free Childcare is graciously provided through New Life Church's Kids Life ministry.
Those with Jr. High and High School age kids can have their teenagers attend the DSM JV and High School ministries on Wednesday nights.
