Dr. A. Paul Ballantyne is Professor of Economics at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he has been teaching since 1967. He was Dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences from 1970-1977. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Southern California, an M.A. from the University of Iowa, and Ph.D. from Stanford University (all in economics). Dr. Ballantyne has taught at the University of Iowa, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado College, and the University of Pittsburgh (Semester at Sea Program). He received several teaching awards at the University of Colorado, which include the university wide Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and the Chancellor’s Award, given for outstanding teaching, research and service. He is listed in Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in American Men and Women in Science.
Dr. Ballantyne was a fighter and a bomber pilot in the United States Air Force from 1954-67. He has traveled many times to Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, and Poland as a consultant to business, education, and government, assisting them in their transition from socialism to capitalism. He worked primarily with the Russian Academy of Economic Science in Moscow, Russia, Sumy State University in Sumy, Ukraine and the Universities of Budapest and Debrecen in Hungary. In 2004 he received an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from the Ministry of Education in Ukraine. Dr. Ballantyne has written in the areas of monetary theory and policy, economic development, comparative systems, economic education, and in general macroeconomics.
